We’re Kilauea Bakery & Pizzeria™, formerly known as Pau Hana Pizza™ and lovingly referred to as “the bakery”
Established in 1991, we take pride in being the longest standing eatery in old Kilauea town, where you'll find die-hard regulars and smiling staff who have been with us for decades. Enjoy a fresh bagel and a hot coffee, dive into a book from our donation-based library, challenge a friend to a game on our vintage chess table, color outside of the lines on our chalkboard, and keep an eye out for local happenings on our community bulletin board. Here, we make everything in-house, from the sauces, fillings & dressings to our signature doughs using our 40 year old sourdough & lactic starters. One affectionately named “Boris” and the other “Natasha“, derived from wild guava. We’re known for our innovative recipes like turning local ulu (breadfruit) into delicious gluten-free breads and pastries, for our vegan cakes that are so good they rival traditional ones, for our signature poi malasadas that are made using local Hanalei taro, and more!
We’re committed to supporting our farmers by buying local and to serving our community with the freshest, healthiest food and pastries, and was proudly deemed Kauai’s Employer of the Year in 2020.

‘Ulu, (breadfruit), is one of Hawai’i’s original food groups and has been around for centuries. It’s similar to jackfruit and is one of the only starches to grow on trees. It’s low in fat, low in sugar, non-GMO, and an excellent source of fiber, protein, essential vitamins and minerals. ‘Ulu is adaptable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly and produces an abundance of fruit for 50-100 years per tree.
We support our local farmers and neighbors by using ‘ulu to make most of our gluten-free items including a unique vegan ‘ulu pizza crust & cheese, ‘ulu hummus, muffins and bagels. In an ongoing effort to be as waste free as possible, we process the entire fruit at its ripest. This makes for the most scrumptious & nutrient packed GF treats! Stop on by and give them a try to see why people rave about them (and deem them the best they’ve ever had).
